The Set of Your Sail

I have gone through a series of difficult situations in my life but each time I have overcome and have come out of them stronger than before. God never said that this life would be easy but He did say to trust in Him, and I can truly say that this life’s journey is much smoother sailing with Him in it. (John 16:33)

2016 was one of the hardest years of my life, but it was also filled with lots of blessings that I am so thankful for. One of the biggest challenges of last year, was dealing with my father’s cancer diagnosis that I received in December of 2015 and everything that followed after that related to it. The other and equally related, was my father in law’s cancer diagnosis also early in 2016. Both my husband, Eric, and I got to go through this together with our fathers. This was the closest that this disease had hit to home, and I was very scared of all the unknowns. However, I shifted my negative thoughts to prayer and trusting God with the situation. I left our parents in God’s hands because that was all I could do. My dad miraculously had a clean scan in March of 2016! The doctors were amazed at how fast and how well he reacted to treatment and I know it certainly had everything to do with our faith. My dad has been receiving treatment again at the start of this year for a couple new tumors found, and so we remain faithful and optimistic. He’s doing great and so is my father in law that just received a clean bill of health at the start of this year in January! We are beyond excited about that.

Sometimes life hits us hard. It can be personal, relational, financial, our health or that of a family member, and loss. I find that when I try to control it all, I always fail. However, when I do what I can and lay the rest at the feet of Jesus, He always finds a way to work it all out. No joke. It just works out and I know it’s because I put my trust in Him that He would work out the details and I find rest knowing that I’ve done all I could. Maybe you’re wondering what that looks like… It’s prayer chicas! It’s asking God to step in and help. Believing it’s already been done for you.

Listen, I won’t pretend to have all the answers because I don’t. I’m human just like you, so I can only speak from experience about what God has done for myself and my family. God is good ALL the time even when life happens. (Psalms 118:29)

For today, I leave you with my favorite quote…
“The same wind blows on us all; the winds of disaster, opportunity and change. Therefore, it is not the blowing of the wind, but the setting of the sails that will determine our direction in life.”
– Jim Rohn –

Let’s commit to adjusting our sails accordingly when winds strike, and not let the winds set our direction for us. We have some control and that is our mindset. Never give up, make wise decisions, and trust God with everything.

All my love,
Mayra
